Early Childhood Education Program


Early childhood education , also known as nursery education, is a branch of education theory that relates to the teaching of children from birth up to the age of eight. You will design a responsive and culturally relevant curriculum for young children through the exploration of authentic materials. You will practice implementing a variety of developmentally appropriate experiences. Your studies will focus on diverse cultural practices that promote the health, safety and nutritional needs of children and which support their holistic development.

Degrees

Other Ontario colleges structure the course as a continued education program, requiring you to have completed an undergraduate degree. This program will often be accelerated to three semesters, rather than the traditional four-semester program. You will plan a quality curriculum for children using a holistic approach while responding to their ideas and play. You will apply the main components of developing curriculum and practice preparing developmentally appropriate and open-ended experiences for children. Through practical experience, you'll get the feedback you need to develop best practices, recognize stages of development, plan curriculum based on children's interests and needs and understand the impact of the environment on behaviour. Throughout the two years, you will have opportunities to work with children through four 4-week practicums in a variety of early learning and child care programs.

Early childhood education training is structured to teach both the theoretical and practical sides of early childhood development . If you want to work with younger children, you’ll need energy, kindness, flexibility and good communication skills. CCC’s on-campus Early Learning Centerprovides preschool, afterschool and daycare services to diverse groups of children, aged 2-5. Your studies will also explore Indigenous traditional practices of modelling and storytelling as a guidance technique. The AAS Distance Education degree requires students to take practicum course and the capstone class at their local campus.

Some of the benefits include a diminished risk of social-emotional mental health problems and increased self-sufficiency as children mature and enter adulthood. Montessori classrooms are also designed to foster independence and exploratory learning. In these classrooms, students are given the freedom to chose what to learn and to set their own pace.
